Dr. Mehmet Oz gave a heartwarming explanation as to why he has kept his Turkish citizenship.
He told a crowd that he still has it so that he can still have “custodial control” over healthcare for his mother who still lives in Turkey with Alzheimers.
He also reminded everyone he vowed to give up his Turkish citizenship if he was elected.

Question: How do you feel about dual citizenship with other countries especially being a civil servant as you would be as a Senator?
Dr. Mehmet Oz: Thank you for asking that question. The reason this is coming up is because of my opponent making a big deal out of the fact that I was born in this country but my father and mother as I mentioned were Turkish immigrants. So, by Turkish law, you are allowed to keep your citizenship. Which I have kept for only one reason my mom has Alzheimers, Ben knows a lot about that ailment, it is a horrible disease that 6 million Americans are afflicted by, my mom lives in Turkey with it. And you lose your loved ones twice. You lose them when they forget you and then you lose them when you lose them. My one sister has mental health issues and so I have a restraining order against her in Turkey. This is a lot of dirty underwear but I’m pretty transparent about who I am. So, I’ve maintained my Turkish citizenship so I have custodial control over her healthcare and I would compromise that if I gave it up. I have agreed, because this is a distraction, I’m honored to be serving you, that I would give up my Turkish citizenship before I serve in the Senate.
Audience member: You shouldn’t have to!
Dr. Oz: I know I shouldn’t have to and to answer your question there is no issue. There have been other senators who were dual citizens. Ted Cruz is a dual citizen but I don’t want there to be a distraction about this.
Audience member: You shouldn’t have to…It’s your parents.
Dr. Oz: I know I shouldn’t have to and I can love my mom and my country at the same time but this is politics. Issues come up and I don’t want it to be in the back of anyone’s mind, well-meaning or not so I have already made that commitment and found ways with my family to address this.
A great explanation from Dr Oz:
Dr. Oz is going to win. This is one reason why. https://t.co/GlC6hcLnZ8

I’ve hit Oz a lot for a lack luster campaign, this is great stuff & heartwarming. Also the crowd telling him not to is very touching as well https://t.co/a2Y5nyutFA

Dr. Oz is facing off against Democrat candidate John Fetterman in the Pennsylvania US senate race.
Fetterman has been dodging debates with Dr. Oz.
John Fetterman, Pennsylvania’s current Lt. Governor who is now the Democrat nominee for US Senate, is one of the most radical Democrats in the senate race.
Fetterman is running against Republican nominee Dr. Mehmet Oz in the 2022 US Senate race in Pennsylvania.
Fetterman has been dodging Dr. Oz’s requests to debate since his massive stroke in May.
John Fetterman finally agreed to *one* debate with Dr. Oz.
Another Senate pickup for the GOP?
