A series of wildfires swept through the island of Maui and its historic Lahaina town in Hawaii in early August. However, the never-ending revelations about authorities’ questionable and poor decisions during the incident continue to unfold. Herman Andaya, now the former chief of Maui’s Emergency Management Agency, decided not to activate warning sirens during the wildfires. He claimed that doing so would have caused more confusion and wouldn’t have saved anyone. Moreover, children were left at home without their parents after power cuts on the island closed the schools – contributing to a large number of juvenile casualties. Following the poor decisions that led to more casualties during the wildfires, reports have emerged that authorities are turning away residents that arrive with much-needed supplies like generators and water. Survivors who receive water provided by the state government get sick after drinking. Hawaiian Electric, which promised to invest in preventive measures after the 2019 wildfires, still lacks preparedness. The local utility company obsessively focused on renewable energy while spending a mere $245,000 on wildfire safety over the four-year period between 2019 and 2023. Furthermore, M. Kaleo Manuel – an official at the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) – refused to release water for the West Maui fire. The deputy director for the DLNR’s  Commission on Water Resource Management believed in water equity and reverence for water as a privilege rather than a resource. A Maui resident says they were winning against the fires “until the water shut off.” Real estate developers taking advantage of the tragic incident in Maui Hawaii Gov. Josh Green has been vocal about his intention to prevent opportunistic land acquisitions by foreign entities and ensure that the recovery and redevelopment process prioritizes the interests of Hawaii’s people. “We don’t want this to become a clear space for overseas interests to exploit. The state will take the lead in preserving it first,” he said during a press conference. The Aloha State’s governor stressed the need to prevent exploitation and land theft: “You will be pretty poorly informed if you try to steal land from our people and then build here.” Despite the clear stance, reports have emerged of developers reaching out to residents about acquiring land owned by families for generations. They have exploited the situation by purchasing land from desperate homeowners. The fear is that without swift insurance payouts and adequate government aid, survivors might be compelled to sell to deep-pocketed buyers. These external parties could then rapidly gentrify neighborhoods and alter the character of the island. As of August 22, at least 1,100 people are still missing and 115 bodies have been found but only 27 have been identified following the deadliest wildfire in the United States in over a century. The said blaze took place in the used-to-be picturesque tourist town of Lahaina, home to 12,000 people. The massive number of deaths and total damages left by the “inferno” are being blamed on many incompetencies of the local government of Maui and a possible staged or geoengineered conflagration. “Health Ranger Report” podcast host Mike Adams, in a recent episode, questioned many coincidences on the “government-sponsored terrorism against the people of Hawaii.” “Why were they denied a water supply? Why were they denied the emergency sirens? Why were the children told to go home when the fires were approaching? Why was the fire department called off?” he wondered. This obviously engineered “event’s” aftermath even shocked responders, who found some families huddled together with their children burned alive. Adams blamed the government’s actions, “which many of us believe were deliberate.” He also linked this to the possible giant land grab taking place in Lahaina. According to reports, Hawaii Governor Josh Green warned developers from the U.S. and the rest of the world not to buy up the lands burned by the catastrophic wildfires because the state government is considering acquiring them for the locals so it’s not “stolen by people on the mainland.” “I’m already thinking of ways for the state to acquire that land so that we can put it into workforce housing, to put it back into families, or make it open spaces in perpetuity as a memorial to the people who were lost,” Green claimed. [The victims] are our fellow humans and countrymen. And again, it’s a democratic-controlled governor and local hierarchy,” the renowned author noted. They take them down,” Quayle said. “If you control the narrative, you only show images you want the public to see. So, there is a necessity for emergency communications and power.” He further pointed out the significance of being able to connect to the people in a family sphere to update them on your safety and status. Adams lauded his other guest, Tina of SAT123.com, the satellite phone store, for the help it is currently providing Lahaina. According to the sat phone store representative, they got about 30 satellite phones donated in Maui. “People are out there working day and night, looking and trying to rescue people. On the island, people rely on cell sites and landlines and both are down. So, the only communication in the affected areas are satellite phones,” she said, adding that they are encouraging at least a person in a community to have a satellite phone to call out to get help or to call friends and family. She also added that satellite phones are best to use if one does not want to be listened in on because the lines are secured. Most voters see President Joe Biden as a poor leader and an untrustworthy chief executive, according to the results of a new survey. The poll, conducted by Center Square and Noble Predictive Insights (NPI) from July 31 to Aug. 3, sampled 2,500 respondents. Unlike traditional national polls that had a cap of about 1,000 participants, the survey had a larger comprehensive respondent size. Registered voters who leaned Republican, Democratic and Independent were surveyed. According to the poll, 49 percent of voters say Biden is not a strong leader compared to the 36 percent who believe otherwise. Forty-nine percent also say Biden does not have the judgment to serve effectively, compared to the 40 percent who believe he does. Moreover, 47 percent say the incumbent president isn’t trustworthy while 40 percent believe he can be trusted. The survey also found that 66 percent of respondents – a solid majority – say the country is headed in the wrong direction under Biden’s leadership. NPI CEO Mike Noble noted how Biden’s rating is “underwater” with both older and younger voters. He also pointed out that four in 10 Democratic-leaning voters think the country is going in the wrong direction. Seven in 10 independent-leaning voters share the same sentiment, Noble added. According to the NPI founder, two events have played a big part in Biden’s tanking approval. The rapid rise in inflation – dubbed “Bidenflation” – during his presidency coupled with the chaotic withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan after more than two decades changed people’s view of the chief executive for the worse. “It’s crazy; when you look at the numbers for Biden, first six or seven months, he was fantastic,” Noble said. “And right when the Afghanistan withdrawal happened, he dropped like a rock and he never recovered.” Noble: Biden has “perception issue” based on survey results The NPI founder and CEO observed that Biden’s trustworthiness as reflected in the poll’s results was rather surprising. “Historically, I think Joe would have scored really high on that question. But I think due to the Hunter Biden issue, he is viewed more untrustworthy than trustworthy among the overall electorate – which I think is a bit of an issue for him,” Noble said. The Biden crime family has been the subject of intense scrutiny over allegations that it benefited from overseas business dealings from the incumbent president’s time as vice president under former President Barack Obama. Under the leadership of its chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the House Oversight Committee (HOC) has released witness testimonies, documents from Federal Bureau of Investigation informants and bank records that support these allegations. The HOC argues that the Biden crime family and its associates received about $20 million from entities in China, Ukraine, Romania, Russia and Kazakhstan. The money was coursed to about 20 shell companies before being transferred to the bank accounts of individual family members – including Joe, who was dubbed the “big guy” in electronic correspondences. At the same time, whistleblowers from the Internal Revenue Service testified that the Department of Justice meddled with the investigation into Hunter, Joe’s second-eldest child. The presidential son, who allegedly spearheaded the overseas deals, is now facing tax and gun-related charges. These allegations, Noble said, have eroded Americans’ trust in the incumbent president. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has vowed to crack down on retail theft after a series of violent flash mob robberies targeted luxury goods stores in the city in broad daylight. LAPD Deputy Chief Blake Chow told reporters on Aug. 17: “The LAPD will not tolerate these acts. We will not stand by idly while these acts continue.” LA Mayor Karen Bass said on the same day that law enforcement agencies across LA County were joining forces to establish a task force aimed at stamping out retail theft. She promised: “If someone commits a crime, we’ll catch [them and prosecute them to the] fullest extent of the law.” The announcement of the task force came a day after retail thieves targeted a Gucci store in LA on Aug. 16. The group of 10 brazenly plundered the store in broad daylight, making off with handbags worth $100,000. Earlier on Aug. 12, dozens of people looted a Nordstrom in LA’s San Fernando Valley and made off with $300,000 of goods. High-end stores throughout the City of Angels have been targeted by masked groups who smash through display boxes and grab designer clothes and bags. Video clips posted on social media shows mobs of up to 50 people rampaging through upscale retailers, breaking glass and yanking away goods attached by security cables. Often, the raids happen in full view of other shoppers too stunned to intervene. Clerks and security guards, meanwhile, are seemingly powerless to prevent them. The video clips of the brazen robberies are cited by conservatives to support their argument that blue cities have an out-of-control crime problem. Robbery statistics in the area are mixed. The LAPD figures noted a decline in the year-to-date number compared to 2022. However, the LA County Sheriff’s Department showed a different number. It recorded an uptick in robberies during the first six months of 2023. Rapper 50 Cent says “LA is finished” because of retail theft Curtis Jackson, known by his moniker 50 Cent, put in his two cents about the Aug. 12 Nordstrom robbery in an Instagram post. He warned that the City of Angels is “finished” due to the rampant retail theft there. “I told you LA was finished,” he wrote. “They are [going to] have to lock the doors, appointment only.” The post from the rapper of “In Da Club” had a screenshot of a news report by KTLA 5 about the incident. This was not the first time the rap artist criticized LA’s situation on Instagram. Back in July, he pointed out that the city’s reinstatement of a zero-bail policy would further its collapse. 50 Cent wrote: “LA is finished. Under the policy, LAPD officers cannot detain suspects accused of misdemeanor crimes. This also extends to theft, shoplifting, drug use, vandalism, battery and other nonviolent crimes. Moreover, those currently in jail on such charges would also be set free. But a suspect violating the zero-bail schedule is immediately put back in jail on a cash bail system. This was not the first time the City of Angels implemented such a policy. During the height of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, LA put the zero-bail policy in place to reduce crowding in jails and curb the spread of COVID-19. LA officials ended the policy in September 2022 as the COVID-19 pandemic waned. However, it was reinstated in May 2023 after LA County Superior Court Judge Lawrence Riff sided with a group of activists who sued the county. The plaintiffs claimed that they had suffered under the cash bail system. Riff’s ruling may have played a part in the proliferation of smash-and-grab crimes in LA, as the culprits no longer fear jail time. Recently released graphic body camera footage showed a 37-year-old gunman open firing on Fargo police, killing a rookie cop who’d only been on the job for three months and critically injuring two others. The gunman was shot dead by 32-year-old Officer Zach Robinson, ending the nearly two-minute assault. On July 14, Mohamad Barakat, a Syrian asylum seeker, parked his car in Fargo, North Dakota, near two vehicles that crashed on a busy road. When the cops arrived to respond to the crash, he seized his moment, opening fire. The police said that Barakat was armed with 1800 rounds of ammunition, multiple firearms, tactical gear, a grenade, three canisters of gasoline and two propane tanks filled with Tannerite, which is a highly explosive material. He had enough explosives to obliterate a crowd in what would have been a catastrophic domestic terrorist attack had it not been thwarted. We’ve got three officers down. Send everybody.” Wallin was shot first. He was taking his weapon out of its holster and was a nanosecond away from firing his own gun when he was fatally injured. Dotas was then hit with multiple rounds and struggled to his feet at one point but went back down, North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley said during a press conference where the state officials released Robinson’s bodycam footage. Hawes also was hit multiple times, shot through his right arm, and unable to stand up to walk, but crawled to Dotas’ side, “to be at his side, to be holding his hand, to be calling his name, to be willing him to live,” Wrigley said. The July 14 dated video showed the three officers lying motionless on the ground as Robinson nears Barakat’s vehicle. Barakat also shot a woman fleeing the scene before he was exterminated by Robinson, who shot Barakat 31 times in total. The gunman somehow survived the majority of the shots and continued to reach for his weapon before eventually being taken out. According to an X post of @KanekoaTheGreat, authorities believe Barakat’s ambush was the prelude to a larger attack that day, with a potential target of the Downtown Fargo Street Fair attended by thousands. The day before the shooting, he Googled “area events where there are crowds” which led him to an article about the Downtown Fargo Street Fair, which was taking place on the same day. His search history also included “explosive ammo,” “incendiary rounds” and “mass shooting events.” Barakat moved to the U.S. in 2012 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2019. Before the incident, his only crime or infraction was a speeding ticket. The shooting investigation remains active and is “proceeding to its logical conclusion,” Wrigley said. In a report provided to the Associated Press by the City of Fargo Fire Department, Battalion Chief Jason Ness noted what appeared to be “a significant amount of gun ammunition,” “multiple ‘assault style’ rifles,” a 20-pound propane cylinder in a bedroom, a second smaller propane cylinder in the kitchen, and “a funnel, blender and other items that looked to be for measuring purposes,” according to the outlet. The police were notified, but all the guns were determined to be legally owned. And last week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Fargo Police Department revealed that the intel agency had “received an anonymous tip about Barakat in July 2021 in which concerns were expressed about his mental state, that he had access to a ‘significant number of firearms’ and that he had used threatening language,” AP reported. When the Fargo police visited Barakat, he “denied any ill-intentions.” According to Wrigley, there was a ‘suggestion’ the gunman may have been on an FBI Guardian list but the FBI has not yet confirmed that he was on it.
