Multiple sources have confirmed that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most brutal cartels in Mexico, has formed its own elite unit of drone operators. U.S. based-security analysts, Mexican officials and cartel members themselves attested to the existence of CJNG’s elite drone unit. The unit consists of a highly trained group of “sicarios” or hitmen devoted to modifying commercial drones and turning them into flying bombs. These weaponized drones are then deployed against rival cartels and even the Mexican government itself. The merciless CJNG started weaponizing commercial drones more than four years ago, per researchers and Mexican authorities. Nevertheless, the formation of specialized drone groups shows that the cartel is moving its drone operations to the next level. “We began training as a group in 2021, but only this year we started operating,” said an anonymous member of the CJNG’s Operadores Droneros unit. He disclosed that the unit is supposedly made up of a dozen individuals, and works only in the states of Michoacan and Jalisco at present. The CJNG drone pilot remarked that his unit is mainly committed to locating and assaulting opposing cartels. These include the Los Viagras and Knights Templar groups in Michoacan and the Sinaloa Cartel in Jalisco. “It depends on which drone we use, but we can be miles away and confirm that [our rivals] are at a certain house or vehicle,” he said. “[And] then, [we] crash the drone with explosives.” The Operadores Droneros unit is still a new and unpopular group inside CJNG, according to an intelligence official inside the Mexican Armed Forces (FAM). Nevertheless, the official said this does not mean that the unit is harmless. CJNG using, weaponizing China-made drones The drones used by the cartel are generally made in China and purchased online through retail platforms. The CJNG pilot said the drones are then packed with improvised explosives, including potassium perchlorate and aluminum. Shrapnel such as buckshot and nails are added in for more damage. An exclusive video acquired by the Daily Beast featured an Operadores Droneros henchman packing explosive charges inside plastic bottles. It also showed nails and buckshot near the working area, as well as a commercial drone in the back of a pickup truck. Several sources inside CJNG verified the clip’s authenticity. According to them, it was recorded a few hours before an August 2023 attack against the Knights Templar in the village of Apatzingan at Michoacan state. The anonymous CJNG member said “Americans and a Colombian man” were the founders of the cartel’s drone operations. These individuals trained cartel members how to source, fly and detonate a commercial drone. “A gringo [American] showed us how to make our own explosives since sourcing a real plastic explosive could be too attention-grabbing,” he recounted. “And the Colombian showed us how to drive and maneuver a drone.” Explosive drones have been one of the most dangerous weapons employed by cartels against the Mexican government. In one such attack from November 2022, explosive drones piloted by CJNG operatives attacked a caravan from the Mexican military as they came to the town of Tepalcatepec in Michoacan. CBS News also reported that attacks involving drone-carried bombs, which were unknown in Mexico before 2020, have been on the rise. The Mexican government has recorded 260 such incidents as of writing. Between 2021 and August 2023, the FAM captured 23 weaponized drones. In a failed attempt to empathize with the victims of the recent wildfires in Hawaii’s Maui island, President Joe Biden claimed he understood the victims by comparing the wildfires to almost losing his car and his cat in a kitchen fire. The wildfires that swept through Maui, centered mostly in the town of Lahaina, had already killed at least 115 people and left another 850 missing. He responded by giving a speech to a crowd in Lahaina where he claimed he knew how it felt to lose a home. He told the crowd: “I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense – Jill and I – of what it’s like to lose a home. “Years ago now – 15 years ago – I was in Washington … [when] lightning struck at home, on a little lake that’s outside of our home – not a lake, a big pond – and hit a wire that came up underneath our home into the heating ducts and air conditioning ducts. To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ’67 Corvette and my cat. “I watched the firefighters, the way they responded … You’re all crazy, thank God. People who run into flames to save other people – and they ran into flames to save my wife, to save my family – not a joke. “We were insured, we did not have any problem. But being out of our home for the better part of a year was difficult. I can only imagine what it’s like to lose your home.” Biden’s false story about possibly losing a car and a cat was not received well. “Joe Biden is a piece of garbage, in my opinion,” said Attorney Thomas Renz on the Aug. 22 episode of his Brighteon.TV program “Lawfare with Tom Renz.” “Biden – who just went over to Hawaii and told everybody about his cat catching fire – told residents whose children died in fires, … who’d lost everything, he told them about almost losing a cat.” “Joe Biden feels the pain of Lahaina [by] talking about his kitchen fire,” said “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host Will Cain. One restaurant owner in the nearby town of Kihei said in an interview that Biden’s comment was “the most despicable thing this president has ever said.” Biden’s aid to Hawaii wildfire victims? Just $700 Biden’s story about possibly losing his car and his cat as one part of his insured home caught fire comes as his administration offered the victims of the wildfires a mere $700 per household. This one-time check is meant to address “immediate needs” like water, food and clothing. Maui residents and victims of the wildfires even pointed out the disparity between the aid provided to American citizens and the aid sent to other countries, particularly Ukraine. During Biden’s visit, many protesters held up signs comparing the assistance already available for the people of Hawaii. To date, the Biden administration has only approved around $8.2 million in assistance to 2,700 households in Maui. There are nearly 54,000 households on the island. Meanwhile, the Biden administration announced a further $200 million in security assistance heading straight for Kyiv as the wildfires were engulfing hundreds of homes. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) claimed in its official data that it has already given around $2.3 million to just half of the 2,700 households eligible to receive the $700 checks. On its website, FEMA claims to have approved $3.17 million in aid, of which $1.42 million is for “individual and households program” assistance and $1.75 million is for “other needs assistance.” None of the figures coming out from the government paint Biden’s administration in a positive light. The White House struggles to spend more than a handful of a million for American citizens caught in a disaster, yet readily sends hundreds of millions in taxpayer dollars overseas. “He gave them $700 and left,” said Renz. “Meanwhile, he gave billions of dollars to the Nazi regime in Ukraine.” Watch the full Aug. 22 episode of “Lawfare with Tom Renz” below. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has vowed to kick-start a probe into President Joe Biden’s response to the wildfires that ravaged the town of Lahaina, located in the western portion of Hawaii’s Maui island. His promise to investigate the chief executive’s response followed the disaster that has killed more than 110, with more than 1,000 individuals missing. The house speaker said during an Aug. 23 appearance in New York that he is very concerned about the response. “We still have hundreds of individuals that are missing. I think there’s [going to] have to be a congressional investigation in response [to] what happened. How could we lose that many Americans in today’s age? And the federal response seems very delayed.” McCarthy also rebuked Biden for his initial refusal to comment on the disaster, alongside his delay in visiting the ground zero of the devastation. The president, while on vacation in his home state of Delaware, remarked “no comment” when a reporter asked him about the Lahaina wildfires. “The president’s response – to have no comment? That’s unacceptable,” the speaker remarked. “So I’m going to work with committees too to look at investigating what went on so that never happens again as well.” Meanwhile, the first couple visited Maui on Aug. 21 amid growing criticism over Washington’s perceived lack of support. The Bidens were met with mixed reactions during their visit. The presidential motorcade drove past disgruntled residents booing and jeering. Some took it a step further, giving the motorcade the middle finger and waving Trump 2024 flags. During his speech, Biden promised survivors of the wildfire that the federal government would support them “as long as it takes.” He continued: “The country grieves with you [and] stands with you, and we’ll do everything possible to help you recover, rebuild, and respect culture and traditions when the rebuilding takes place.” GOP reps: Biden visit to Lahaina “predictable” and “cringeworthy” The tourist town of Lahaina – home to 12,000 – was almost wiped off the map. Over 3,000 structures were turned to ash, with the estimated damage amounting to $5 billion. While no single cause has been determined for the fires as of writing, experts suggest power lines that weren’t shut off despite high winds may have caught fire when they fell. At least two of McCarthy’s colleagues in the GOP expressed disgust over Biden’s response to the Maui disaster. During an Aug. 22 appearance on Fox Business, South Carolina Rep. Russell Fry rebuked the president’s visit. “The ‘American last’ policies of the Biden administration were on full display,” he told the network’s Cheryl Casone. “I mean, it was the most cringeworthy visit of a disaster area that I’ve ever seen.” “I think it’s inexcusable, the conduct of this administration. Quite frankly, the people of Maui and this country deserve better than what they’re receiving right now.” Even House Majority Whip Tom Emmer from Minnesota blasted the president’s blunders at the disaster’s ground zero in a statement to Breitbart News. “Biden blundering in times of crisis is as predictable as a snowy Minnesota winter: it’s inevitable,” he wrote. “If his presidency has taught us anything, it’s to not hold your breath for competent leadership from this White House.” The Minnesota congressman referenced various gaffes by the incumbent while visiting Lahaina. Foremost among them is Biden’s downplaying of the suffering experienced by residents as he compared the wildfires to a small kitchen fire. He also insensitively joked about the “hot ground” at Lahaina while touring the town. Recently released graphic body camera footage showed a 37-year-old gunman open firing on Fargo police, killing a rookie cop who’d only been on the job for three months and critically injuring two others. The gunman was shot dead by 32-year-old Officer Zach Robinson, ending the nearly two-minute assault. On July 14, Mohamad Barakat, a Syrian asylum seeker, parked his car in Fargo, North Dakota, near two vehicles that crashed on a busy road. When the cops arrived to respond to the crash, he seized his moment, opening fire. The police said that Barakat was armed with 1800 rounds of ammunition, multiple firearms, tactical gear, a grenade, three canisters of gasoline and two propane tanks filled with Tannerite, which is a highly explosive material. He had enough explosives to obliterate a crowd in what would have been a catastrophic domestic terrorist attack had it not been thwarted. We’ve got three officers down. Send everybody.” Wallin was shot first. He was taking his weapon out of its holster and was a nanosecond away from firing his own gun when he was fatally injured. Dotas was then hit with multiple rounds and struggled to his feet at one point but went back down, North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley said during a press conference where the state officials released Robinson’s bodycam footage. Hawes also was hit multiple times, shot through his right arm, and unable to stand up to walk, but crawled to Dotas’ side, “to be at his side, to be holding his hand, to be calling his name, to be willing him to live,” Wrigley said. The July 14 dated video showed the three officers lying motionless on the ground as Robinson nears Barakat’s vehicle. Barakat also shot a woman fleeing the scene before he was exterminated by Robinson, who shot Barakat 31 times in total. The gunman somehow survived the majority of the shots and continued to reach for his weapon before eventually being taken out. According to an X post of @KanekoaTheGreat, authorities believe Barakat’s ambush was the prelude to a larger attack that day, with a potential target of the Downtown Fargo Street Fair attended by thousands. The day before the shooting, he Googled “area events where there are crowds” which led him to an article about the Downtown Fargo Street Fair, which was taking place on the same day. His search history also included “explosive ammo,” “incendiary rounds” and “mass shooting events.” Barakat moved to the U.S. in 2012 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2019. Before the incident, his only crime or infraction was a speeding ticket. The shooting investigation remains active and is “proceeding to its logical conclusion,” Wrigley said. In a report provided to the Associated Press by the City of Fargo Fire Department, Battalion Chief Jason Ness noted what appeared to be “a significant amount of gun ammunition,” “multiple ‘assault style’ rifles,” a 20-pound propane cylinder in a bedroom, a second smaller propane cylinder in the kitchen, and “a funnel, blender and other items that looked to be for measuring purposes,” according to the outlet. The police were notified, but all the guns were determined to be legally owned. And last week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Fargo Police Department revealed that the intel agency had “received an anonymous tip about Barakat in July 2021 in which concerns were expressed about his mental state, that he had access to a ‘significant number of firearms’ and that he had used threatening language,” AP reported. When the Fargo police visited Barakat, he “denied any ill-intentions.” According to Wrigley, there was a ‘suggestion’ the gunman may have been on an FBI Guardian list but the FBI has not yet confirmed that he was on it.
